Stanford robot car “Junior” in action, DARPA Urban Challenge

Posted by admin on April 6th, 2009 and filed under Uncategorized |

Yesterday, a Volkswagen Passat drove around a parking lot in Mountain View, CA, made three-point turns, and followed the rules at a four-way stop–all without human intervention. The computer-controlled car is named Junior, and it’s Stanford University’s official entry in the DARPA Urban Challenge, a race in which an autonomous car must navigate city streets, obey traffic laws, avoid obstructions, and, crucially, drive well among other cars in traffic. This test run is Junior’s first public …

    isn’t the ultimate …
isn’t the ultimate purpose for any car to have people ride inside of it? I mean, this car has no one inside of it while the video is being taken but the purpose of making a car like this would probably be to carry people. But, you know, if the idea behind a car like that was to carry supplies of some sort I’d be completely wrong!

I wish i went to stanford and could see this thing in action too. self driving cars are pretty much the coolest thing ever.

    non-living stuff …
non-living stuff coming alive is the start of evolution, not evolution itself.
and has already been replicated in a lab. it happens only in specific conditions, this car complies to non of them.

evolution applies is anything that is self replicating actually (more specificity the , succesfull, mistakes made in the replication)
this car again is not that.

i think this car is badass. i don’t like the lazer scanner on the top. I would prefer to see an internal radar or maybe sound responsive. All that stuff on top kind looks ghost busters like.

You need to shut up …
You need to shut up, all of you! Stfu! do you see why I’m Atheist? I came to see a car drives itself, rate nicely on it, mke a good comment, and get on with my life! You, MuslimGhost, need to chill, you are partially correct that we do have extremely intelligent brains that help us solve extremely complicated equations and trivia everyday, and we can easily put any information storing device to shame, but that doesn’t mean you have to take your “God” into this. So y’all need to shut up!
